If you are like me, you have multiple blogs or websites. Getting separate hosting for each website can get expensive. Until Recently, I had separate shared hosting account for each of my websites hosted through godaddy. It was then that I heard you could host multiple websites on 1 godaddy account, after consolidating all of my websites onto 1 account, I am now saving over $20.00 a month on hosting costs!

In this guide I will explain how to host multiple websites on 1 godaddy account, hopefully saving you some cash.

Part 1: Take a look at godaddy’s shared hosting options (see picture)

The Deluxe and Unlimited plans both allow for multiple websites to be hosted on 1 web hosting account. For my needs, the $6.99 / month Deluxe hosting more than met my needs for bandwidth and disk space, so that is what I chose. If you already have an account with godaddy you can upgrade any of your economy plan hosting accounts to the Deluxe level, and after backing up files from your other accounts, you can close those down.

Part 2: Once you have your deluxe account, you can manage it as you normally would except your management screen will look slightly different. You will see an option to “Manage site domains“.

Clicking this option will show you all of your Godaddy domains that you have pointing toward your hosting account.

Clicking “Add Domain” (in the upper right corner) will allow you to add your godaddy domains to your godaddy deluxe hosting account. When you start typing one of your domain names into the domain text box, it should auto-complete a list of domain names for you to make it easy.
Before Adding Domains you will want to setup separate folders for each of these domains to point to. Go into your file manager and create a new folder called “_SITES” (the leading “_” is to make this folder always appear at the top of lists for convenience). Next create folders inside of the “_SITES” folder for each of your domains. When you have that finished, continue back to the “ADD DOMAINS” page.

Part 3: You are now ready to actually start adding the domains. Do as indicated earlier to add the domains and select the folder which you want to point the domain to. (See picture below)

Once you have done that, you will need to wait for the status to change from “pending setup” to “setup“. Don’t worry about the folder structure, you will still be able to access your site by typing in the domain normally as you would if you had separate hosting accounts for each domain.

Once the domains are setup you can use an FTP client to start uploading your sites files to each of the site’s folders you created inside the “_SITES” folder… Don’t forget, you will also need to setup new databases and migrate database data as well. You will probably also need to edit your sites database connection info (the “host name” will have changed) in order for sites reliant on databases to continue functioning (such as wordpress or drupal based sites).

As long as your backups were done correctly you should have no problems with this migration.

Let Me Know how things went! This is the same process I recently went through with my blogs and I’m glad to say everything worked out fine.
