QSB-cover
So you are taking a course that requires you to install and use winQSB on your computer… You get the book, look at it and see something interesting. “Now compatible with Windows 2000!”. Awesome right?

If you are like me, you probably have windows vista or windows 7, I mean it is 2010 already. You’ve gone and tried to install QSB but you are getting errors and things are not working correctly.

In this how-to I am going to explain, step by step, with pictures, how to install winQSB on a windows vista and windows 7 computer. The guide was initially written for windows Vista but the steps should transfer directly over to windows 7. If you have any problems using this guide with windows 7 please notify me!

(*Some of our readers have been having trouble getting this to work with 64-bit versions of Vista. if you have a solution for 64-bit windows vista, I’d be more than happy to post it. This page will also only work for 32-bit versions of windows 7. For a guide on installing winQSB on 64-bit versions of Windows 7, see the link above.)

Ok lets get started

Step 1:

Insert your winQSB CD into your cd-rom drive

Since it is so freaking old, setup will not appear, in fact, nothing may happen at all.

  • Click the START MENU and then click COMPUTER

You will then see this

LocateCD

Right click the drive that has Win QSB in it and select OPEN

Step 2:

Try to find the setup icon. It is labeled as just plain “setup”. It looks like this:

locateSetupIcon

Compatibility

Step 3:

Right Click the SETUP icon and select PROPERTIES

You will then see this window, select the tab at the top that says Compatibility

Check off “Run As Administrator”, and also check off “Run This Program In Compatibility Mode For:”

Use the drop down menu to select WINDOWS 2000 as indicated in the photo to the right. Click the APPLY button, and then click OK

Step 4:

Now double click the SETUP icon and run installation as normal

Step 5:

After winQSB is installed in Vista, you will find all of the winQSB applications in the start menu under the folder labeled WinQSB

We need to enable compatibility for windows 2000 for each of the applications you want to be able to use.

Navigate to the winQSB folder in the start menu and right click the application you want to be able to use.

Next select Properties

Step 6:

Select the compatibility tab in the window that appears.

Check off Run as Administrator as well as Run This Program In Compatibility Mode For:

and use the drop down list to select Windows 2000

Click Apply and then click OK
